Southport Historical Society
Organization
The Southport Historical Society was
organized on January 15, 1976 with 42 Charter Members
The purpose of the society is to
bring together persons interested in the history of Southport and
surrounding areas. Understanding the history of our community gives
us a better appreciation of our American heritage.
The society’s basic function is to
discover and collect materials which help illustrate our history and
to provide for the preservation of such material while making it
accessible to all who wish to study or examine it.
We actively seek to preserve the
town’s records and archives, and encourage the preservation of
historic buildings, monuments and markers.
